Harrison Ford to return as Han Solo

Harrison Ford is open to playing Han Solo again for "Star Wars VII".

7 Nov – Fans were lucky to see Harrison Ford reprising his role as Indiana Jones in Steven Spielberg's well-received "Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull" back in 2008, and now the veteran star is rumoured to be returning to the role of Han Solo for the new "Star Wars" film, which is tentatively set for a 2015 release, according to Broadway World.

Following Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm at US$4.05 billion last week, it was announced that they have plans to shoot "Star Wars VII", which riled up fans of the sci-fi blockbuster with curiosity on what the new film would be like and which stars are going to take up the roles in it.

A reliable source had recently told Entertainment Weekly that Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher might be reuniting for the upcoming "Star Wars" in cameo appearances.

"Harrison is open to the idea of doing the movie and he's upbeat about it, all three of them are," the source said.

While that may be, Ford is not really into the character of Han Solo, a loner and smuggler who pilots the Millennium Falcon with his Wookiee co-pilot, Chewbacca, who become involved in the Rebel Alliance against the Galactic Empire.

"As a character, he was not so interesting to me," said Ford in an interview with ABC in 2010.

Harrison Ford, 70, rose to fame after his performance as Han Solo in George Lucas's "Star Wars IV: A New Hope" back in 1977.

Solo was initially scripted to die in "Star Wars VI: Return Of The Jedi" but did not because the character's action figures were selling so well.

"I thought he should have died in the last one to give it some bottom... George didn't think there was any future in dead Han toys," the 70-year-old revealed.

Apart from "Star Wars", the "Air Force One" actor was also approached by Sylvester Stallone to join the other action veterans in "The Expendables 3" but there is no confirmation yet on whether he would accept Stallone's offer.

Ford was last seen in Jon Favreau's 2011 sci-fi Western film "Cowboys And Aliens". He will next be seen in Gavin Hood's science fiction film based on the novel of the same name by Orson Scott Card, "Ender's Game", and "Paranoia", opposite Liam Hemsworth, Gary Oldman and Lucas Till.
