"The Good Dinosaur" secures top three

Writer: Florey DM

Spot and Arlo from "The Good Dinosaur" guard its top three positions.

8 Dec – "The Good Dinosaur" is not extinct as it managed to stay in the top three at the U.S., Malaysia and Singapore weekend box office for 3 to 6 December 2015.

The Pixar movie still doesn't manage to surpass "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2", as the Jennifer Lawrence-starrer still stands strong at number one in the U.S. with its domestic weekend gross of USD18.8 million.

In fact, the animated movie is now down a 'Spot' to number three, having lost the second place to newcomer "Krampus". The low-budget horror movie directed by Michael Dougherty made an impressive opening with a collection of USD16.29 million domestically.

"The Good Dinosaur" rests at number three, having made another USD15.3 million last weekend. Though the movie is Pixar's lowest opening ever as it received a lacklustre welcome during its debut, it's proven to be one tough dino as it manages to stay in the top three even outside of the U.S.

"In the Heart of the Sea", a true story that inspired "Moby Dick".

Biographical adventure thriller, "In the Heart of the Sea", has captured the hearts of Malaysian audiences as it entered the weekend box office chart at number one. The Chris Hemsworth-starrer has yet to open in the U.S., but according to Box Office Mojo stats, it already has a worldwide gross of USD17.1 million.

Pushed down to number two is "The Good Dinosaur" while another new release, "Point Break", came in at number three. The Ericson Core-directed remake of the 1991 movie by the same name also opened a few weeks prior to its release in the U.S.

"The Good Dinosaur", however, maintained its good position at the Singapore chart. It made no move from number one as "In the Heart of the Sea" and "Point Break" opened at number two and number three, respectively.

Other movies that opened in Malaysia last weekend are "Krampus", "Ghost Theatre", "Paint My Love", "Port of Call" and "Chowrasta".

Singapore's new releases for last weekend are "Go Lala Go 2", "X-Past Is Present", "Yowamushi Pedal The Movie", "Regression", "Mr. Unbelievable", "Krampus" and "Uppu Karuvadu".
