Original creator returns for 10th "Halloween" sequel

Writer: Florey DM

John Carpenter's "Halloween" was released in 1978.

25 May – The original 1978 "Halloween" movie has spawned many remakes and sequels, so it is only fitting that the man whose movie kickstarted the whole franchise return to direct a new version of the iconic horror feature.

"38 years after the original "Halloween" I'm going to help to try to make the 10th sequel the scariest of them all," said John Carpenter in a statement by American distributor, Miramax.

Carpenter, who wrote, directed and even scored the original movie, will be joining the reboot project as executive producer and creative consultant.

The new movie will be co-produced by franchise producer Malek Akkad, Miramax and Trancas International Films along with Jason Blum's Blumhouse Production ("Paranormal Activity", "Insidious", "Sinister"), a production company that all horror fans should be quite familiar with by now.

Since its debut, "Halloween" has been followed up with nine other instalments, the last one being Rob Zombie's 2009 sequel to his 2007 remake of the original movie, both of which were met with negative receptions.

However, with a gross of USD80.2 million worldwide against its USD15 million budget, 2007's "Halloween" was the highest-grossing instalment in the franchise.

There is no release date set yet for the reboot but there are speculations that it will be released on Halloween 2017.
