29 May – "Fast and Furious 8" proves that the long-standing franchise is still a massive hit with international audiences by crossing the USD1 billion mark at the foreign box office.

The eighth instalment of Universal's "Fast and Furious" franchise is now one of six films to have grossed over USD1 billion overseas.

As recorded by Box Office Mojo, as of today, "Fast and Furious 8" has earned USD1.001 billion overseas and domestically brought in over USD222.5 million, which makes its total earning of USD1.223 billion being mostly attributed to its international fans.

China brought in most of the earnings with over USD390.2 million, breaking the country's record of the highest grossing Hollywood film previously held by "Furious 7" at USD390.1 million.

Other top grossing territories are Brazil (USD41.1 million), the United Kingdom (USD37.3 million), Mexico (USD36.2 million) and Germany (USD31.8 million).

Elsewhere in Asia, in Malaysia the movie has grossed USD12.1 million, USD5.51 million in Singapore, USD19.3 million in Indonesia, USD19.5 million in India, USD30.7 million in Japan, USD7.6 million in the Philippines, USD26.6 million in South Korea, USD9.3 million in Thailand and USD6.9 million in Vietnam, as stated to date on Box Office Mojo.

Everyone wants a piece of us.

"Fast and Furious 8" made itself known as one of the most popular movies of the year by having the largest opening weekend of all time at USD541.9 million, with USD443.2 million of the total supplied by overseas grosses.

It's highly evident that the film has a bigger foreign fanbase that was probably drawn in by the franchise's diverse cast which includes Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodrigues, Jason Statham, Tyrese Gibson and Ludacris.

The fact that Charlize Theron played a major antagonist in this instalment probably also has something to do with its popularity.

"Fast and Furious 8" opened in cinemas over a month ago.

It now joins its predecessor, "Fast And Furious 7" in the exclusive club of USD1 billion overseas grossers with "Avatar", "Titanic", "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and "Jurassic World".

The two final instalments of "Fast and Furious" are slated for April releases in 2019 and 2021.
