Morgan Freeman adds winner of SAG Life Achievement Award to his impressive resume.

23 Aug – Known for his versatility with roles ranging from playing gods to presidents and pimps, Academy Award-winning actor Morgan Freeman will next be honoured as the 54th recipient of the SAG Life Achievement Award.

Morgan will officially receive the award at the 2018 SAG Awards next January, according to Variety.

To be presented by the SAG-AFTRA for his career achievements and humanitarian efforts over the years, the annually presented award is only given to actor who fosters the "finest ideals of the acting profession".

"Some actors spend their entire careers waiting for the perfect role. Morgan showed us that true perfection is what a performer brings to the part," said SAG-AFTRA president Gabrielle Carteris.

"He is innovative, fearless and completely unbound by expectations. As a chauffeur, convicted murderer boxing gym attendant, pimp or president, Morgan fully realised every character, baring their souls and showcasing their humanity."

"It has been a privilege to see his genius at work," she added.

Owning a prolific career spanning 50 years and more than 100 film credits, Freeman will join the likes of past recipients, Lily Tomlin, Debbie Reynolds and Dick Van Dyke, as he receives the honour at the Los Angeles ceremony next year.

Last seen in Zach Braff's "Going In Style" in April, the 80-year-old actor has already earned recognition from nearly every other prominent organisation in Hollywood.

Winning an Oscar and a SAG award for his supporting role in 2005's "Million Dollar Baby", he is also the recipient of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's Cecil B. DeMille Award, an AFI Lifetime Achievement Award and a Kennedy Center Honor.

Freeman can next be seen in the upcoming movies "Villa Capri" and Disney's "The Nutcracker and the Four Realms".
