"Crazy Rich Asians" does deserve a loud applause, a sequel is now in early development
thanks to its crazy opening weekend in the U.S.

23 Aug – With Hollywood going crazy over "Crazy Rich Asians", it comes as no surprise that a sequel to the Singapore-based rom-com is already in the works.

While Warner Bros. hasn't officially greenlighted the project, according to The Hollywood Reporter, it is already in early development.

Director Jon M. Chu will most likely return to helm the sequel, with plans to shoot it after he wraps up filming for the big screen adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda's first musical, "In the Heights".

The follow-up will be adapted from Kevin Kwan's second book in the trilogy, 2015's "China Rich Girlfriend".

Since the studio has the option for the entire trilogy, most likely a third movie based on the last book, 2017's "Rich People Problems", will also get an adaptation if the sequel proves to be as successful as the first movie.

Expect to see the first movie's team, both in front of the camera and behind-the-scenes, to reunite for the second movie, as there are plans to bring back screenwriters Peter Chiarelli and Adele Lim to pen the sequel, as well as producers Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson of Color Force and John Penotti of Ivanhoe to produce it.

As the second book still focuses on Rachel, Nick, and Eleanor, it is very likely that Constance Wu, Henry Golding, and Michelle Yeoh will be back as part of the main cast.

"Crazy Rich Asians" is now showing in Malaysia and Singapore, and opening soon in Cambodia on 31 August. Make sure to stay for the mid-credits scene!
