Jason Momoa is set to star in a sci-fi reboot next.

16 Feb – Hot off his "Aquaman" success, Jason Momoa is now in talks to join the star-studded cast of Denis Villeneuve's sci-fi movie, "Dune".

The Hollywood Reporter brings word that if the actor says yes, he will be playing the character Duncan Idaho.

Idaho, a swordsmaster who is very loyal to the Atreides family, ended up appearing in all of author Frank Herbert's original novels after becoming a fan favourite. He was portrayed by Richard Jordan in the 1984 movie adaptation directed by David Lynch.

"Dune" is adapted from Herbert's 1965 sci-fi novel of the same name. Villeneuve's reboot is set to be a more loyal adaptation of the novel. Lynch's version was a box office disappointment but it managed to garner a cult following over the years.

Filming for "Dune" is expected to begin this March and since the director said that it might take two years to complete, the movie is probably only hitting the big screen in 2021.

Once Momoa seals the deal, he will join a cast led by Timothee Chalamet, who will star as Paul Atreides, whose family controls Arrakis. After the Atreides family is betrayed, Paul leads a rebellion to restore his family's control of the desert planet.

The cast also includes Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgard, Charlotte Rampling, Javier Bardem and Josh Brolin.

Aside from Momoa, Zendaya and Oscar Isaac are also still in discussion to join the movie.

Momoa can currently be seen on the big screen as the titular superhero of "Aquaman", which has set the record for the highest-grossing DC movie of all time with its USD1.122 billion worldwide collection to date and is gearing up for a sequel as well as a horror spinoff.

He can also be heard voicing the animated Lego version of the superhero in "The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part", which is also currently showing in cinemas.
