27 Jan – After announcing that it will be releasing the new "Godzilla vs Kong" on 26 March, Warner Bros recently revealed that the new movie will be delayed a week and instead have a 31 March release.
This is the second time the movie's release date has been changed, after the studio decided to bump the release two months earlier than expected from its original 21 May premiere. It will now be released simultaneously on the streaming service HBO Max.
It is believed that the latest delay was made in response to news that Universal and Sony Pictures are postponing their April movies, the James Bond sequel "No Time to Die" and "Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway", respectively. The Bond movie will now be released in October, while "Peter Rabbit 2" will be shown in June.
"Godzilla vs. Kong," the fourth installment in production company Legendary Entertainment's monster universe following "Godzilla," "Kong: Skull Island" and "Godzilla: King of the Monsters" is directed by Adam Wingard and stars Alexander Skarsgard, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall and Brian Tyree Henry.
At the same time, Warner Bros is also adding James Wan's new horror entry, "Malignant" into the schedule, with its release date set on 10 September.
Wan expressed his happiness over the release date on social media, writing, "I'm super excited for this film. I don't even know how to describe it. I wanted to do something original and genre-bending, and different to my other work, but still in the spirit of the horror-thrillers I grew up with. More to come."
