Lupita Nyong'o says Ryan Coogler has exciting ideas for "Black Panther 2"

Writer: Heidi Hsia

9 Mar – While Lupita Nyong'o is tight-lipped about the fate of the second instalment of Marvel's "Black Panther", the actress is adamant that the movie will not replace the late Chadwick Boseman as the titular character.

The actress, who was asked about the plans for the sequel amid discussion about how Marvel and director Ryan Coogler will continue the franchise, stated, "You know I have nothing to tell you, but it's going to be a hard one. It's going to be different, of course, without our King to go back into that world. But I know that all of us are dedicated to reimagining or carrying on his legacy in this new Black Panther."

She also added that Coogler has some "really, really exciting ideas" that she looks forward to bringing to life with the rest of the "Black Panther" family.

Nyong'o plays Nakia opposite Boseman's T'Challa

Fans are now speculating on who will be centre stage now that T'Challa will not be recast, with some believe that Nyong'o's Nakia could also be taking up the mantle, aside from the obvious choice, Shuri (played by Letitia Wright).

The movie is scheduled for release in 2022.

Boseman passed away in August 2020 after four years of battling colon cancer.
