Goosebumps was exactly what I felt while watching this movie. Love it! This is by far one of the most dangerous and extreme racing competition that will take you on a ride you'll never forget. If you really love watching those car-racing scene, this movie will give you just that with an added extra ingredient that will leave you awestruck. The film promised action and it gave just the right amount of it and so much more.
For your information, director and producer Paul W.S Anderson created this film to reimagine Roger Corman's 1975 classic "Death Race 2000". While this action-thriller is quite different from Corman's classic, one thing that remains unchanged is the fans' enthusiasm in their passion for their favourite drivers to massacre competitors.
In this story, the contestants are brutal prisoners and the rule of the race is simple - win five events, and you're free. Lose and you're road kill. Jason Statham takes the role of Jensen Ames who is forced to don the hideous mask of the mythical driver Frankenstein, as he enters an insane three-day challenge in order to gain freedom. Jason played an awesome role, considering the fact that he has had a string of action films under his belt. He gave Jensen that needed "cool" appeal with his low and husky voice that gives of a sense of mysteriousness and danger.
The racing scenes were very stylish as some video game elements were incorporated into the scene. It made it a lot more presentable and entertaining to watch, adding a nice touch. The fighting and racing scenes were both believable enough that they looked like they are really hurt on the spot! In addition to that, the soundtrack for this movie is excellent as it grasps those intense adrenaline pumps of the race.
Do hang about till the end of the credits if you want to hear the short threatening line of Warden Henessy (played by Joan Allen) that may or may not be a hint to the possibility of another Death Race. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
