"Contraband" tells the story of ex-drug runner, Chris Farraday (Mark Wahlberg), who had decided to abandon his life of crime for good, until his brother-in-law, Andy, accepts a drug deal from the mob and gets his family in trouble. Now, it is up to Chris to settle the problem by doing what he used to do best: smuggle drugs. Left with no choice, Chris quickly contacts his best mates and forms a crew together with his best friend, Sebastian, for one last trip to Panama hoping to return with enough cash to pay back Andy's debt.
Firstly, "Contraband" is definitely not for all ages as it contains violent scenes. However, for those who are qualified, it is definitely a movie to watch as it is fast-paced enough not to be dull, and there is enough suspense to keep watching till the end. The movie's cinematography may not be very stylistic, but it helps to deliver a coherent plot and keep things fresh.
The cast of this movie are commendable, but it is not so much their acting than the plot, because the movie's genre does not leave much space for emotion anyway. No doubt that the best part of the movie is the plot, as there are various unexpected twists thrown in as opposed to straightforward action. If you love action, "Contraband" is a movie to watch this year.Cinema Online, 03 February 2012
