A Tale Of Love And Darkness

The story is based on the memoir of Amos Oz, who grew up in Jerusalem in the years before Israeli statehood with his father and mother, Arieh and Fania. They were one of the many Jewish families who moved to Palestine from Europe during the 1930s and `40s to escape persecution. Fania was a dreamy and imaginative woman who wanted so much more but her husband was very cautious about everything. The terror of war weighed heavily on Fania`s spirit and she became unhappy with her marriage and intellectually stifled. She would make up stories of adventures to cheer herself up and entertain her 10-year-old son Amos. Her narrative would become an influence on Amos` writing for the rest of his life.
