Movie Details

Moonlight

The movie chronicles the three time periods - young adolescence, mid-teen and young adult - of a young black man named Chiron who grows up in a rough neighbourhood of Miami. As a child, Chiron lives with his single, crack-addict mother Paula, who completely neglects him and is more concerned about getting her fixes and satisfying her carnal needs. Shy and withdrawn, Chiron is often bullied but he usually fails to understand the slurs thrown at him which are meant to be hurtful. Besides his same-aged Cuban-American friend Kevin, Chiron is given a little guidance in life from a neighbourhood drug dealer named Juan and his caring girlfriend Teresa, as they know the abuse and mistreatment Chiron is receiving at home. Because of this, Juan and Teresa`s home act as a sanctuary for Chiron, and with this childhood as a foundation, Chiron may have a predetermined path in life, one that will only be magnified in terms of its problems when he reaches his difficult teen years.
