Minamata

Once a celebrated war photographer, W. Eugene Smith now lives a reclusive life. With the glory days of World War II a faraway thing to him now, Smith has become disconnected from society and his career. But when "Life" Magazine editor Ralph Graves and Japanese translator Aileen, whom he later marries, urge him to return to Japan to expose the devastating effect of mercury poisoning on the citizens of Minamata, Kumamoto, he agrees to do so. Using just his Nikon camera, he documents the mercury poisoning, dubbed Minamata disease, and exposes its horrifying truth to the world during the 1970s.
