Our favourite Disney Princesses

Since the 30s, most of a little girl's dream was to become a beautiful Disney princess. Either to be whisked away by a prince or striving with things on your own, a Disney princess film teaches audiences to do anything they wish to be.

With the help of the Cinema Online readers, we countdown to our favourite Disney princess based on the reader poll results.

7. Anna (Frozen)

Gracing seventh place on the list of our favourite Disney princesses, our readers have chosen the newest Disney Princess Anna from the upcoming film "Frozen". While it might have not have had enough votes because we don't actually know her that well yet, she did beat her sister, Elsa in the list!

Voiced by "Veronica Mars" actress Kristen Bell, Anna is the main protagonist in "Frozen". She is the fearless, spunky, and innocently awkward sister of the powerful Snow Queen Elsa, and embarks on a perilous journey to save her kingdom from an eternal winter.

Fun Fact: Anna is based on Gerda from the original "Snow Queen" fairy tale.

6. Giselle (Enchanted)

The only Disney princess who appears as an animation and in live action, Giselle is voiced and played by actress Amy Adams and is the sixth favourite Disney Princess in our list!

At the beginning of the film, she is originally made to spoof the regular perception of a Disney Princess and she has never felt emotions such as frustration and anger, up until she was sent into the live action world. Giselle is described as about 80% Snow White, with some traits borrowed from Cinderella and Princess Aurora, although her spunkiness comes from Ariel!

Fun Fact: Disney decided to not market Giselle as an official Disney Princess because it would have to pay royalties to actress Amy Adams for using her likeness!

5. Jasmine (Aladdin)

Our fifth favourite Disney Princess is the Arabian daughter of the Sultan of Agrabah in the 1992 animated film "Aladdin", who was voiced by Linda Larkin and was provided a singing voice by Lea Salonga.

Jasmine in the film had become frustrated with the duties of being a princess, and longs for a life outside of the palace. Jasmine must marry before her next birthday, which results in a problem because Jasmine wishes to marry for love rather than for wealth, glory and power.

Fun Fact: Before Rapunzel came along, Jasmine was the Disney Princess with the longest hair.

4. Pocahontas (Pocahontas) and Ariel (The Little Mermaid)

Tied in fourth place are Pocahontas and Ariel! Pocahontas is the main protagonist from the 1995 film of the same name about the free spirited daughter of Chief Powhatan and Ariel is "The Little Mermaid" herself.

Ariel is based on the protagonist of Hans Christian Andersen's "The Little Mermaid" fairy tale, but was developed into a different personality for the 1989 animated film with long, flowing red hair, a green tail and a lavender seashell bikini top. Pocahontas' name means "Little Mischief" and she is based on the real historical figure, and was born into a highly sophisticated Native American culture that had some knowledge of Europeans.

Fun Fact: Ariel is the fourth Disney Princess to be forced to run away from her love interest, she was preceded by Snow White, Cinderella, and Aurora, and was succeeded by Pocahontas.

3. Aurora (Sleeping Beauty) and Snow White (Snow White and the Seven Dwarves)

Cinema Online readers have voted for both Aurora of "Sleeping Beauty" and Snow White to be at number 3 in the list of favourite Disney Princesses. Snow White was first coined as the Fairest Of Them All; because her purity showed much more beauty than the Queen's vanity and jealousy.

Aurora, or Briar Rose, is the titular character and the protagonist of Disney's 1959 film "Sleeping Beauty" and is often described as kind, elegant, shy and sophisticated, as well as a hopeless romantic.

Fun Fact: Snow White is said to be a 14 year old girl and is the youngest of all Princess, even though she was the first Disney princess!

2. Belle (Beauty and the Beast)

Taking the number 2 spot in the list of our favourite Disney Princesses is the 'beauty' herself, Belle. Belle literally means 'beauty' in French and is the female protagonist of Disney's 1991 film "Beauty and the Beast".

Many find her a favourite because although she has a pretty face she doesn't spend her time maintaining her looks and getting a handsome man and prefers reading and learning, instead. She is very confident and outspoken in her opinions, and seldom likes being told what to do.

Fun Fact: Belle is so far the only Disney Princess to actually be a peasant.

1. Cinderella (Cinderella)

For our number one choice of favourite Disney Princesses, Cinema Online readers have voted for Cinderella! The princess is considered to be the most iconic of all the Disney princesses, and even though some may perceive her as weak or helpless, but she is in fact brave and strong.

"Cinderella" is a 1950 American animated film based on the fairy tale "Cendrillon" by Charles Perrault, and both Helene Stanley (Cinderella's live action model) and Ilene Woods (Cinderella's voice actor) heavily influenced Cinderella's styling and mannerisms.

Fun Fact: Not only is the name of the Prince never revealed, he is nowhere in the film mentioned as "Prince Charming".
