Movies pumped with EDM soundtracks

Some of the movies that feature EDM soundtracks.

After making a name for himself as an onscreen musical sensation, Zac Efron now wants to gain recognition as an electronic dance music (EDM) DJ in his latest film, "We Are Your Friends" targeted for release this August 2015.

So what's the hype about? Well, for starters we have Efron's co-star, model Emily Ratajkowski (who was in Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" music video) and apparently Efron's character gets into this DJ thing pretty intensely, with some parts even shot at the Ultra Music Festival based on what we can see from the trailer!

Music junkies would immediately recognise the movie's title picked from a Justice Vs Simian song of the same name. Music junkies-cum-movie-buffs would immediately start listing down movies that feature EDM scores.

EDM has become a somewhat integral part of modern movies, though it's no new concept because '90s movies, "Mortal Kombat" for example, have use electronic music (check out "Techno Syndrome" by The Immortals) even way back then.

Here we list for you recent movies that will make you feel like either getting on the dance floor or getting off it to spin some tracks on the DJ booth.

"Tron: Legacy" (2010) – Daft Punk

Also titled "Tron: Legacy", the album is the first film score by French EDM duo Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, or more famously known as Daft Punk. The soundtrack is a unique blend of electronic and orchestral music; a futuristic sound that fits the beat of the Disney sequel (starring Jeff Bridges, Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde) to the 1982 film, "Tron".

"Hanna" (2011) – The Chemical Brothers

The British electronic music duo, consisting of Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons, was applauded for their ability to produce remarkable background music when the album "Hanna: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack" dropped. It fits perfectly with the movie about a young girl (Saoirse Ronan) trained by her father (Eric Bana) to be an assassin.

"Drive" (2011) – Cliff Martinez

American film score composer Cliff Martinez provided the soundtrack to this neo noir action film, that stars Ryan Gosling as an unnamed Hollywood stunt performer who moonlights as a getaway driver. With titles like "My Name on A Car", "I Drive" and "After the Chase", there's no mistaking the songs as anything other than the tracks for a movie aptly named "Drive".

"Spring Breakers" (2012) – Skrillex, Cliff Martinez

The soundtrack to this movie about four college girls, Candy (Vanessa Hudgens), Faith (Selena Gomez), Brit (Ashley Benson) and Cotty (Rachel Korine), who hold up a restaurant in order to fund their spring break vacation is made up largely of the works of Skrillex as well as the abovementioned Martinez. Most of the titles are not exactly PG-friendly, so here are some of the "safer" ones: "Scary Monsters And Nice Sprites", "Son Of Scary Monsters" and "Smell this Money".

"Wreck it Ralph" (2012) – Skrillex

The 27-year-old American EDM DJ not only provided a track for this Disney movie – which follows a video game villain named Ralph that wants to be a hero – he even made an animated cameo in it! Called "Bug Hunt", the music is a perfect accompaniment for a video game movie, or even just for any gamers virtually destroying their video game nemesis.
