"Candyman" is one of the horror movies that are all set to spook audiences in cinemas soon. |
Most of this year's movies are getting delayed to next year due to the worldwide cinema closures caused by the pandemic. We previously listed major Hollywood titles that will still be making it to the big screen this year, now we shift our focus to Hollywood titles that fall under the horror genre. More specifically, the upcoming new instalments of horror movie franchises.
Read through the list below to brace yourselves for these Hollywood horror movies that are all set to scare everyone once cinemas reopen soon!
"The New Mutants"
Let's start off with "The New Mutants". While not part of a horror franchise per se, it is set to be released as an instalment of the highly popular "X-Men" film series. The movie is a treat for fans of both superhero and horror genres as it combines both! Directed by Josh Boone, it focuses on a group of young mutants that must save themselves from a secret facility where they're being held against their will. After being delayed four times, the movie is finally slated for release in North American cinemas this 28 August
"A Quiet Place Part II"
After being delayed from its March 2020 release date, the sequel to 2018's "A Quiet Place" has silently crept to a new date in fall. John Krasinski's "A Quiet Place Part II" will now be opening in North American cinemas this 4 September. Emily Blunt returns to star as the Abbot matriarch, who must protect her children as they venture into the outside world, where the creatures that hunt by sound is not the only terror they will face.
"The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It"
Details are scarce on this third "The Conjuring" movie – also the eighth instalment of The Conjuring Universe franchise. It is only known that it will be releasing in North America this 11 September, with Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga returning as Ed and Lorraine Warren. Franchise creator James Wan only served as producer on "The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It" as he was busy helming another horror movie, "Malignant", which is based on his own original story. Unfortunately, Wan's movie currently has no release date after being pulled from its August 2020 schedule.
"Candyman"
With Jordan Peele producing the movie, as well as co-writing the screenplay with Win Rosenfeld and Nia DaCosta (who also directs it), this sequel to the 1992 movie of the same name is already proving to be a sweet treat for horror fans. "Candyman", releasing in North America this 25 September, is the fourth instalment of the slasher franchise also of the same name. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II stars in the movie as a visual artist who begins using the supernatural killer as inspiration for his art, and in doing so, unwittingly unleashes a terrifying wave of violence.
"Halloween Kills"
Just in time for the spooky month of October is "Halloween Kills", the 12th instalment of the "Halloween" franchise. Both Jamie Lee Curtis and Nick Castle will be reprising their respective roles in the movie as Laurie Strode and Michael Myers (the latter role is shared between Castle and James Jude Courtney), where their saga will once again continue. David Gordon Green directs the movie that's set for release in North America this 16 October.
