Get together with your friends remotely and enjoy these movies. |
Due to social distancing, we can't go out of our house right now and hop over to a friend's place for a fun movie party, but there is a way to continue the party part without leaving the house! Enter Netflix Party, the Google Chrome extension everyone is loving right now because it allows you to have fun movie nights (or days) with friends while still keeping your safe distance.
Just install the extension and make sure the friends you're inviting to your virtual movie party have their own Netflix accounts as well. Once you have that installed and are logged into your Netflix account on the same browser, just look for a movie to watch and 'Start the Party'. Share the URL with your guests and enjoy the party! There's even a chatroom on the side of the screen where you and your friends can discuss the movie as you watch it.
See below for some of the movies you can enjoy together on Netflix Party.
"Groundhog Day"
Because isn't every day starting to feel very repetitive now? You're stuck in a daily loop of wake up, eat, either work or play, eat, sleep. A shower or two thrown in there daily, plus a rare trip to the outside world for grocery shopping every once in a while. In this movie, Bill Murray's TV weatherman character, Phil Connors, finds himself reliving the same day over and over. You and your friends can definitely relate to that and having a laugh over this comedy can lighten the situation a little.
"Happy Death Day"
For a more modern – and horror-filled – take on the whole caught in a loop themed movie, check out this black comedy slasher movie that is best described as "Groundhog Day" meets "Scream". If you think you're having a bad repetitive day, Theresa "Tree" Gelbman (Jessica Rothe) has it even worse: she has to keep repeating the day she dies. To top it all off, of course it has to be on her birthday too. You and your friends can have fun trying to figure out who's the killer.
"Gerald's Game"
Make a game out of this, a guessing game. (No handcuffs needed). See if you and your friends can correctly guess which of the things Gerald's wife, Jessie, is experiencing is just her hallucination or an actual thing happening to her. This highly-praised big screen adaptation of Stephen King's novel of the same name will keep you on edge throughout the movie, but it will give you and your friends plenty to discuss by the end of it.
"A Quiet Place"
Everybody is so cautious in this movie. That's also something you can relate to. While you can still make as much noise as you want, you have to make sure whoever you're making the noises to are standing at least 1 metre away from you. There are also other things you have to be cautious of, like making sure your hands are virus-free or you're not touching your face every five seconds (no matter how smooth your skin is, don't). While watching the movie with bated breath, chat with your friends on ways to keep the coronavirus at bay, like how the Abbots keep the creature away.
"Avengers: Endgame"
Why? Because seeing everyone's reactions to everything that happens in the movie never gets old. There will be gasping, laughing, clutching of pearls, crying, you name it, you'll see it. While technically "Spider-Man: Far From Home" is the final movie in MCU's Phase Three, this movie is the one that sorts of wrap things up for most of the Avengers. Best catch up on what every one of them has been through before they (or some of them) return in Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
