Michael Jackson tops charts

"Michael Jackson's This Is It", the highest grossing concert film of all time.
2 Nov – "Michael Jackson's This Is It" performed exceptionally well for a concert picture and raked in US$101 million over a five-day worldwide haul, which exceeded the lifetime tally of "Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour" and is by far the highest grossing concert film of all time, Variety reports.

Selling over 10,000 tickets on the first day of advance ticket sales in Malaysia, "Michael Jackson's This Is It" tracked in a total admission of RM26,000 on opening night, according to distributor Sony Pictures Releasing International. Meanwhile in Singapore, it pulled in a cumulative gross of S$648,501 on opening weekend.

Tricking audiences with a supposed two-week-only engagement in order to encourage people to rush and see the movie, online reports are circulating that Sony Pictures extended the theatrical run to a few more weeks in the US and on a country-by-country basis elsewhere.

On related note, it has been revealed that close friend and Jackson's comeback tour director Kenny Ortega had discussed several movie projects with the late pop legend including a feature-length big screen version of his hit Thriller video, and a film version of Peter Allen's musical "Legs Diamond".

Following the final days of the singer's life before his death in June, "Michael Jackson's This Is It" movie includes interviews, rehearsal and backstage footages of Jackson preparing for his planned 50 concerts in London's O2 Arena.
