18 March – A new "American Pie" film will bring back the original cast members and franchise back to the silver screen this time rather than a direct-to-DVD release, The Wrap reveals. The film titled "American Reunion 4" is set for a 2011 production date by Universal Pictures who is currently in negotiations with the cast. Jason Biggs, Seann William Scott and Eugene Levy are already signed on while Chris Klein, Mena Suvari, Jennifer Coolidge, Tara Reid, Thomas Ian Nicholas and Alyson Hannigan (who currently plays Lily in the hit television series "How I Met Your Mother") are expected to reprise their roles as well. Fans will be glad to know that despite Scott's recent check-in to rehab for 'personal issues', his rep confirms that it will not interfere with his role in the movie. Scott played one of the leads as the womanising Steve Stifler in the first three instalments of the movie.
Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg of "Harold & Kumar" fame will write and direct while Chris Weitz, who with brother Paul had directed the first film will both be serving as executive producers this time around. The first three "American Pie" movies that had been produced by a total budget of US $95 million have grossed a total of nearly US $755 million worldwide. The spin-offs were then direct-to-DVD releases with a completely new cast.
