4 Apr – James Marsden and Russell Brand's live-action animation "Hop" dominates the North American box office with Jack Gyllenhaal's action mystery "Source Code" while Patrick Wilson's horror "Insidious" scares its way up to third place for the weekend just gone (1-3 Apr), BoxOfficeMojo reports. Hatching an estimated US$38.1 million, Brand's Easter bunny in "Hop" narrowly pushes Johnny Depp's chameleon "Rango" aside to claim the highest-grossing opening weekend of 2011 so far while Jack Gyllenhaal's "Source Code" generated an estimated US$15.1 million, a low-down compared to the starts for its fellow recent sci-fi thrillers "Limitless" and "The Adjustment Bureau" while "Insidious" debuted with an estimated US$13.5 million. "Hop" is showing at the cinemas in Malaysia and Singapore from 31 March onwards. The tracker site also reported that among holdovers, last weekend's champ, "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules" shied away by ranking fourth with an estimated US$10.2 million for a US$38.4 million tally in ten days while "Sucker Punch" bled an estimated US$6.1 million for a US$29.9 million sum in ten days. Meanwhile GSC Mid Valley cinema assistant manager Madhu revealed that the cinema registers slow crowd and that the top three highest-grossing movies at the prime location for the weekend are "Sucker Punch", "World Invasion: Battle Los Angeles (2D) and "Hop". Other new releases and sneak shows over the weekend in Malaysia include "Nanjupuram", "Sattapadi Kutram", "Bavani", "Game", "Choy Lee Fut", "Just Go With It", "Don't Go Breaking My Heart", "Cun" and "The Butcher, the Chef And The Swordsman". New releases and sneak shows in Singapore over the weekend include "Game", "Natali", "The Eagle", "Let The Bullets Fly", "Sanctum", "Hop", "Faster", "Made In Dagenham" and "Carmen In 3D".
