Jackman as Huntsman

Will Aussie actor Jackman play the Huntsman as "The Wolverine" moves into indefinite hiatus?

7 Apr – Universal Pictures has offered Australian actor Hugh Jackman the role of the Huntsman in its upcoming "Snow White and the Huntsman" movie after Viggo Mortensen opted out of the role last month, reports TheWrap.

The offer comes as Darren Aronofsky departs from directing Jackman's "The Wolverine" and Japan's current nuclear crisis that has caused the filming of the movie, which is set in Japan, to go on hold.

Although it is yet to be known if Jackman will accept the part, if he does, he will be joining the likes of Kristen Stewart ("Twilight") who will play Snow White, and Charlize Theron ("Monster") as the evil Queen.

It is learned that Jackman was approached after negotiations with Viggo Mortensen ("The Road") fell through, as the actor wanted more money than the studio was willing to dish out.

The movie, a twist on the original Brothers Grimm fairy tale, focuses on the Huntsman, a character who is supposed to kill Snow White but ends up protecting her, mentoring her and teaching her how to fight and survive the evil queen's wrath.

Directed by Rupert Sanders, the Universal Pictures movie will be competing with another Snow White adaptation, Relativity Media's "The Brothers Grimm: Snow White" which is directed by Tarsem Singh with Julia Roberts, Lily Collins and Armie Hammer attached to act.

The production for "Snow White and the Huntsman" is scheduled to begin late this year with an anticipated release date of 21 December 2012.
