20 Dec – With filmmaker Namewee's "Nasi Lemak 2.0" garnering RM 7 million at the local box office this year, now barely 4 months later, comes "Hantu Gangster", which has already commenced production in Klang boasting a bigger mix of cast. The principle shooting of "Hantu Gangster" was held at Taman Pengkalan Batu Klang yesterday, where producer Fred Chong introduced the extensive cast of the upcoming movie which comprises of Namewee, who besides directing also plays the lead, along with Dato David Arumugam, Diana Danielle, Farid Kamil, Dato Jalaluddin Hassan, Dennis Lee, Wah Gor, Fa Chai Bao, Amber Chia, Noh Hujan, Taijuddin Bakar, Mizz Nina and more. On directing his second film Namewee revealed, "I didn't expect to be able to shoot my follow up film so soon, but thanks to the strong response for my debut, I can continue pursuing my passion in filmmaking with this new film." Based on a story by Namewee, producer Fred Chong said that grounded on an observation conducted, the local audience seemed to enjoy either gangster or horror films more than the other genres, thus the unique combination serves as an inspiration for the movie title, as well as the story of "Hantu Gangster" which also retains Namewee's 1Malaysia spirit through his multicultural cast. "I spent a lot of time studying my new casts' background and specially designed their unique characters into my story, I even wrote a song for Dato David Arumugam to sing in my movie." said director Namewee, adding that even Noh from Hujan will be belting out a number or two. "Hantu Gangster" is a horror action comedy film about three groups of gangsters from different cultural backgrounds, coming together to defend their family through the help of an unlikely small-time thief played by Namewee. Produced by ProdiGee Media, the film is expected for an August 2012 release to coincide with the Merdeka month.
