9 May – Kenneth Branagh's superhero feature "Thor" hammers on to the number one spot in North America as "Fast Five" is knocked off, while the wedding-themed comedy; "Jumping the Broom", takes third for the weekend just gone (6-8 May), reports online tracker BoxOfficeMojo. One of the first out of four superhero movies to be released this year, "Thor's" thunderous debut managed to rake in an estimated US$66 million. While "Thor" fared pretty decently for the box office count, it still fell short from 2008's "Iron Man", also from Marvel, which brought in a whopping US$ 98.8 million in the U.S. on its opening weekend. "Thor" is now showing in cinemas in Malaysia and Singapore. Although coming in second, "Fast Five" fared better than "Thor" on its opening the weekend before the last, with US$ 86.2 million. Last weekend, "Fast Five" raked in an additional US$ 32.5 million bringing its gross thus far to US$ 139.8 million. "Fast Five" is re-titled as "Fast and Furious 5" for territorial release and is now showing in cinemas at Malaysia and Singapore. Unlike the North American box office, "Fast and Furious 5" dominates in Malaysia for the top spot, as "Thor" secures being second while knocking off "The Lost Bladesman" from second to third place over the weekend. Other new releases and sneak shows over the weekend in Malaysia include "Paul", "Doraemon: Nobita dan Perang Ikan", "Engeyum Kadhal", "The Detective 2" and "Momok Jangan Panggil Aku". New releases and sneak shows in Singapore over the weekend include "Umizaru 3: the Test Of Courage" and "Biutiful".
