3 May – Sleeper hit "Think Like A Man", manages to hold tight to first place for the second time running last weekend bringing its total domestic gross to US$60.4 million as it relishes what critics predict to be a short lived success at the top as "Marvel's The Avengers" blasts its way into North America tomorrow. The second spot goes to stop motion animation, "The Pirates! Band Of Misfits" featuring the voice talents of Hugh Grant, Martin Freeman, David Tennant, Jeremy Piven and more as it hauls Nicholas Sparks' tear jerker "The Lucky One" to walk the plank and fall to fourth place. Odds seem to be still in the favour of "The Hunger Games" which remained at third place again last weekend as it currently is the highest grossing movie listed in the North American box office chart at US$372 million according to sources at Box Office Mojo (26 to 29 April). However in Malaysia, moviegoers relished in "Marvel's The Avengers" which opening earlier than most regions as the superhero big bang starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson and more proved to not hinder white hot ticket sales despite its release a day before the Bersih 3.0 rally. Keeping the adrenaline pumping while it's boiling with action is "Battleship", which made way for the Marvel superheroes last week and retreated to calmer waters to rest at second place while the dystopian film "Lockout", still secures itself to be relevant at the local box office chart with third place. In Singapore, which saw the release of "Marvel's The Avengers" on labour day has yet to enter the weekend charts, therefore "Battleship" dominates the top spot for three weeks in a row now while those who opted out from action, settled for the second place movie last weekend; "The Lucky One". Maintaining the third place streak as well in Singapore is Joss Whedon's "Cabin In The Woods", which proves that horror is always welcomed especially if it encompasses a twisted story heightened by witty lines the way only Whedon knows how. New movies opening in Malaysia this week are "Safe", "Lives In Flames", "Timeless Love", "Chow Kit", "The Lady", "Vazhakku Enn" and "Leelai". In Singapore, new movies opening this week are, "Fabulous 30", "The Howling: Reborn", "Love And Bruises" and "Jannat 2".
