25 Feb – It is no surprise that "Argo" ended up with the winner for the film industry's grand event with Best Picture, as it was a critics and fan favourite that won numerous awards prior to the 85th Oscars while Ang Lee took home his third Oscar trophy and his second Best Director Oscar for "Life Of Pi". While "Life Of Pi" took home awards for Best Cinematography, Best Score, and Best Visual Effects, it was not really a movie that would have garnered Best Picture, considering the other contenders. Also unsurprisingly, Daniel Day-Lewis won Best Actor for "Lincoln", which also marked his third time winning an Oscar while Jennifer Lawrence won Best Actress for "Silver Linings Playbook". Other winners include Christoph Waltz as Best Supporting Actor for "Django Unchained" and Anne Hathaway as Best Supporting Actress for "Les Misérables", which made this year's Oscars fairly predictable. From the winning films mentioned above, "Life Of Pi" and "Les Misérables" have already been shown at Malaysian cinemas, "Lincoln" is currently showing, while "Django Unchained" is slated for release this 14 March. The big winner for the night, "Argo", had not made it to our shores as of yet and no release plans have been made prior to the Oscars. It is however possible that with the "Argo's" big win today, expected local distributor Warner Bros. Malaysia might consider bringing the movie over as a limited release screening similar to last year's Best Picture winner "The Artist", which was only brought over after it had won the honour; screening for a limited time during the French Film Festival which was held at GSC Cinemas.
