3 Mar – Wally Pfister's directorial debut feature-length project, "Transcendence", may add another high-profile cast member, English actor Paul Bettany, to its A-list lead, Johnny Depp. According to the official press release, Bettany is in negotiations to star with Academy Award nominee Johnny Depp in the Oscar-winning cinematographer's science-fiction film. Details of Bettany's given role are currently unavailable as yet. Meanwhile, Pfister is best known as Christopher Nolan's longtime cinematographer, and has been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Cinematography four times, each time for a film directed by Nolan.
The screenplay for the film is penned by Jack Paglen, with Christopher Nolan, Emma Thomas and Aaron Ryder serving as executive producers. Rumour has it that the story revolves around a scientist whose brain gets uploaded into a supercomputer with the aim of creating the world's first machine that can think for itself. With such a cast and crew, anticipation is definitely running high for the film. There will also be a female lead, with Rooney Mara, Rebecca Hall and Emily Blunt rumoured to be in consideration. Principal photography is set to begin in April in Los Angeles, with Warner Bros. aiming to release "Transcendence" sometime in 2014.
