Penelope Cruz is next "Bond" girl

Penelope Cruz will be a Bond girl in Sam Mendes's follow-up to "Skyfall".

4 Jun – Spanish Oscar winner Penélope Cruz will be appearing in the upcoming Bond film that serves as a follow-up to Sam Mendes's "Skyfall". Cruz's casting has sparked the public's interest as she would be the oldest Bond girl ever.

Though many journalists have commented on Cruz being too old, the decision had received a lot of applause on the other end, saying that the decision to cast Cruz is regarded as a feminist breakthrough and that "finally, cinema's ultimate chauvinist has got himself an age-appropriate girlfriend."

Currently referred to as "Bond 24", the next "Bond" film has yet to be titled, but it will begin production in summer 2014, just after Penelope celebrates her 40th birthday.

Daniel Craig's Bond will finally get himself a woman close to his age.

Penelope is also currently pregnant, but producers are not worried about the new baby's impact on Penelope's schedule.

"She'll be a great Bond girl. Bond girls are always brainy as well as sexy, and that's totally Penelope."

Honor Blackman, who played Pussy Galore in 1962's "Goldfinger", previously held the title as oldest Bond girl.

Producers have tried to get Cruz before, but she has never been available because of other commitments. Discussions have been going on for some time and they are working out the contract details now.
