The new "Terminator" is slated for a 2015 release.

29 Jun – The "Terminator" film franchise, which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, will be resurrected in a new, more modern-looking stand-alone trilogy. It was also announced that the first film of the new trilogy, which is the fifth "Terminator" film to be made, will be released by 26 June 2015.

However, there is no mention that the new reboot will involve the original series' star Arnold Schwarzenegger. The "Escape Plan" actor starred in the first three films and appeared briefly in "Terminator Salvation".

Christian Bale in "Terminator Salvation".

David Ellison's Skydance Pictures and Megan Ellison's Annapurna Pictures are partnering up for the reboot of the franchise. Dana Goldberg and Paul Schwake of Skydance will serve as executive producers. Avatar's Laeta Kalorgridis and Drive Angry's Patrick Lussier are attached to write the script.

The first film in the franchise was released in 1984 and titled "The Terminator". Directed by James Cameron, it received critical acclaim and helped launch the film career of Cameron and solidify that of Schwarzenegger, who played the titular cyborg. On the other hand, the last film in the franchise so far, "Terminator Salvation", which was released in 2009, was critically panned.
