"Captain America 2" rules

The stars of "Captain America", (L-R) Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans at the premiere in China.

2 Apr - Marvel's sequel to the rise of the patriotic all round good guy-turned buffed up superhero "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" has topped the weekend box office of 27 to 30 March for both Malaysia and Singapore!

"Captain America: The Winter Soldier" stars Chris Evans as the hero, with Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan and Samuel L. Jackson about Steve Rogers, who struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and battles a new threat from old history; the Soviet agent known as the Winter Soldier.

The sequel did pretty well in Malaysia and Singapore, even beating "Divergent" which took the second spot in both countries as well.

"Noah" took the top spot in the U.S., but unfortunately won't be screened in Malaysia due to its religious content.

In Malaysia, "Captain America 2" and "Divergent" beat out fellow movies like "Need for Speed", "Mr. Peabody and Sherman" and local film "In The Dark" which fell in third, fourth and fifth place, respectively.

In Singapore, "The Grand Budapest Hotel" fell in third place, and in the U.S. "Noah", starring Russell Crowe and Emma Watson took the top spot instead, with "Divergent" and "Muppets Most Wanted" in second and third place.

Industry experts have claimed that "Noah" was expected to hold the top spot in U.S. last week as "Captain America 2" will only be released in the country on 4 April, almost a week later than its international release of 27 March 2014, hence it is expected that the Marvel movie will be taking over "Noah" this weekend for the top spot.

"Noah" is the retelling of the classic Bible tale, where a man is chosen by God to undertake a momentous mission of rescue before an apocalyptic flood destroys the world. The movie is not shown in Malaysia due to its religious content.

Other new movies that opened in Malaysia last week are "Lu, Gua Bro!", "Magical Sisters Yoyo and Nene", "Hunter x Hunter", "Lupin the 3rd vs Detective Conan", "Aayirathil Oruvan" and "Nedunchalai ".

Other new movies that opened in Singapore last week are "The Lunch Box", "Project Hashima", "Beijing Love Story", "Tiger and Bunny Movie: The Rising", "Nedunchalai", "Aayirathil Oruvan", "Dishkiyaoon" and "Inam".
