Denzel Washington shows he still has what it takes to keep fans interested as his film placed first in U.S., Malaysia and Singapore.
30 Sep – Denzel Washington's latest, "The Equalizer" levels out the playing field by beating previous champion, "The Maze Runner" with the highest box office collection for last weekend in Malaysia, Singapore and U.S. from 25 to 28 September 2014. Collecting USD34.1 million in its opening week, the thriller placed first for its debut in the U.S. while "The Maze Runner", which fell to second place, collected USD 17.4 million. Also newly released, the 3D fantasy-comedy animation film "The Boxtrolls" came in at a close third with a weekend gross of over USD 17.2 million in U.S.
"The Equalizer" also dominated Malaysia's weekend box office chart, beating two-time champion, "The Maze Runner" which now rests at second place. Meanwhile, Tamil film, "Aranmanai" stays in the third place for the second week running. For Singapore's weekend box office chart, the first, second and third place went to "The Equalizer", "The Maze Runner" and "A Walk Among the Tombstones" respectively. Also opening in Malaysia last week were; "The Ultimate Life", "Amir & Loqman Pergi ke Laut", "November Man", "3 Geniuses", "Dark Horse", "Madras", and "Outcast". Other new movies that opened in Singapore last week were; "Madras", "Lupin The Third", "The Prince" and "The Babadook".
