Godzilla smashes in!

It may be scary, but a reboot later and "Godzilla" still dominates the box office.

In America, "Bad Neighbours" has beaten "The Amazing Spider-Man 2".

21 May – The much awaited monster thriller reboot, "Godzilla", starring Bryan Cranston and Aaron Taylor-Johnson managed to chomp down on the previous top spot holder, "The Amazing Spider-Man 2", for the box office weekend of 15 to 18 May for the number one spot in North America, Malaysia and Singapore.

In North America, "Godzilla" had a whopping opening week collecting USD93 million domestically, slightly more than half of the overall domestic collection of "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" which to date, has grossed USD172 million over its three weeks of opening.

With Spidey now hanging in third place, the Zac Efron and Seth Rogen comedy "Bad Neighbours" is still performing surprisingly well and is able to overcome competition from Marvel for two weeks now as it rested comfortably in second place last weekend.

In Malaysia, contributing to "Godzilla's" current first place standing is the IMAX and Dolby Atmos versions of the movie that is reportedly filed to the brim with throngs of moviegoers who want to catch the giant monster at its very best visual and sound capacity.

"The Amazing Spider-Man 2" swings at second place while the raunchy "Bad Neighbours" is at third place, for which considering the amount of censorship it has gone through, still managed to capture audiences from 15 to 18 May.

In Singapore, the box office collections over the weekend had similar fate as Malaysia, with "Godzilla" in first place followed by "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" and "Bad Neighbours".

Other new movies that opened in Malaysia last week are ""Chef", "The Lost And Found Family", "Yaamirukka Bayamey", "Aberdeen", "Ia Wujud" and French Film Festival movies; "Camille Rewinds", "The Young Girls Of Rochefort", "Princes and Princessess", "Approved For Adoption", "Nenette" and "Granny's Funeral".

Other new movies that opened in Singapore last week are "Vallavanukku Pullum Aayudham", "The Teacher's Diary", "Love Is In The Air", "Fading Gigolo", "The Quiet Ones" and "Grand Piano".
