23 Dec – Justin Lin revs off the runway and flies into the galaxy – in other words, the "Fast & Furious" director is now helming a "Star Trek" project.

Paramount Pictures, Skydance Productions and JJ Abrams' Bad Robot have picked up the director to helm the upcoming third movie in the revived "Star Trek" franchise, Deadline reports.

Paramount no doubt has faith in Lin, who is well known for reviving the "Fast & Furious" franchise, to continue the success of the previous "Star Trek" movies. The first movie, released in 2009, grossed over USD385 million worldwide and made USD960,679 in Malaysia. The sequel, 2013's "Star Trek Into Darkness made a worldwide collection of over USD 467 million, including USD2 million in Malaysia.

Lin will be replacing Roberto Orci in the director's chair. Orci was originally set to direct "Star Trek 3", having had experience writing the screenplays for the previous two movies.

Lin previously had a 2015 project lined up – the sequel to 2012's "The Bourne Legacy" starring Jeremy Renner. However, the sequel has reportedly been postponed following the return of Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass to the "Bourne" series.
