4 Dec – Netflix's latest original TV series is about to premiere on 12 December 2014, with all 10 of its episodes debuting on the same day.
The series is one of the most expensive Netflix shows to date, Variety reports, with Netflix reportedly paying USD90 million for the 10-episode first season.
However, it did benefit from tax incentives extended by Malaysia. Harvey Weinstein of The Weinstein Co., which produced the medieval-themed series, said, "It might look like "Game Of Thrones", but it sure didn't cost what "Game Of Thrones" did."
The period drama was shot primarily in Asia. The exterior shooting was done in Kazakhstan, while shootings on set were largely done in Malaysia. There were a total of 51 sets built at Malaysia's Pinewood Studios for the purpose of the shooting.
Italian actor Lorenzo Richelmy stars as the titular character in "Marco Polo". The rest of the cast is made up of Remy Hill, martial arts actor Tom, Olivia Cheng and lastly, Zhu Zhu as Marco's love interest.
The Western Co. and Netflix will be collaborating again for the release of "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend", the sequel to 2000's "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", which will be released simultaneously online and in IMAX theaters in August 2015.
