Neil Patrick Harris to host the Oscars

Neil Patrick Harris will be hosting the Oscars next year.

16 Oct – Neil Patrick Harris proves he is one hot commodity as an awards show host. After previously hosting the Emmy and Tony Awards, the actor can now cross the Oscars hosting gig off his bucket list.

Harris has some big shoes to fill as the last Oscars, hosted by Ellen DeGeneres, drew in 43.7 million viewers, according to Deadline.com.

It also achieved 13.1/33 rating among adults aged 18 to 49, which made it highest rated since 2010 and the most watched Oscars since 2000.

Neil Patrick Harris as the 'legendary' Barney Stinson.

Most known for his portrayal as Barney Stinson on long-running American sitcom "How I Met Your Mother", Harris won't have a problem handling the crowd inside the Dolby Theatre as well entertaining the audience watching the awards ceremony through their television. The award-winning actor's experience of hosting the Tony Awards as well as Emmy Awards for multiple times has given Harris sufficient credibility for the coveted Oscars host role.

Harris can currently be seen on the silver screen acting alongside Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike in "Gone Girl", a thriller adapted by Gillian Flynn from her 2012 novel of the same name.

2015 Oscars, also known as the 87th Academy Awards, will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles on 20 February 2015.
