Tim Burton is ready for a "Beetlejuice" sequel.

27 Dec – Last year, there were talks of Tim Burton making a sequel to his 1988 film, "Beetlejuice". Looks like those words are finally coming true as the director himself said to IGN that the sequel is "closer than ever".

Burton, of course, wishes to work with the original film's star as well as one of his frequent collaborators, Michael Keaton. "There's only one Beetlejuice, and that's Michael. There is a script, and I would love to work with him again."

Michael Keaton as the titular role, Beetlejuice.

Earlier this year, Keaton has already confirmed in an interview with MTV News that Burton was involved in the project, meaning that the two are definitely collaborating again. Winona Ryder also previously hinted of her return as the then-teenaged daughter, Lydia, who will now of course be an adult as the sequel will take place 27 years after the events in the first film.

"Beetlejuice" tells the story of a couple who passed away from a car crash and finds themselves trapped as wandering souls in their own house. When a new family moves in, the couple hires Beetlejuice the 'bio-exorcist' to get rid of the new occupants.

Helena Bonham Carter plays the Red Queen.

Burton recently announced his break-up with Helena Bonham Carter, who is also one of the actors he often works with, after being together for 13 years. The two are currently working together on 2016 film, "Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass", the sequel to 2010's "Alice in Wonderland", with Burton as producer and Bonham Carter reprising her role as the Red Queen.

Burton's latest film, "Big Eyes", was recently released in North American cinemas on 25 December. The movie will, however, only reach Malaysia on 15 January 2015.
