"Annabelle" to haunt again in sequel

The creepy doll that is "Annabelle".

19 Oct – Despite receiving mostly negative reviews, "Annabelle" did manage to collect a good sum at the box office, enough to warrant a sequel to the horror movie.

"Annabelle 2" is currently in the making, according to The Tracking Board, with James Wan once again producing.

Gary Dauberman will also return to pen the script but director John Leonetti might not be getting back on board. It is also not confirmed whether the original cast will be reprising their roles in the sequel.

There is currently no release date for "Annabelle 2".

The first "Annabelle" is a spinoff of "The Conjuring", the 2013 horror movie directed by James Wan. Based on the possessed doll in the movie, "Annabelle", however, failed to live up to hype. Audiences flock the cinemas expecting more but was presented with a mediocre storyline with little scares. This could hurt the reception for the upcoming sequel.

Still, New Line Cinema is moving forward with it since the 2014 movie did manage to open at number two at the U.S. and gross USD256.8 million worldwide, based on Box Office Mojo stats.

As for "The Conjuring", with its USD318 million worldwide gross and positive reviews, it's no surprise that "The Conjuring 2" is now well underway with Wan once again directing Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga in their roles as paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren.

"The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist" opens in cinemas in June 2016.
