7 Jan – While it's no secret that Channing Tatum is set to be part of the X-Men team as Gambit, the release date for Gambit's stand-alone spin-off has never been confirmed – until now. The 34-year-old actor recently posted a simple, but highly informative, tweet on his official Twitter account. It simply says, "How do you say October 7, 2016 in Cajun?" As confirmed by Variety, Twentieth Century Fox has set the release date for the "X-Men" spin-off for next year. It was confirmed last year that the "22 Jump Street" star will be playing Gambit, a New Orleans thief who possesses bio-kinetic charging abilities as his mutant power. Tatum will be replacing Taylor Kitsch, who first portrayed the character on the silver screen in 2009's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine".
The last "X-Men" movie was released in May 2014; "X-Men: Days of Future Past" has since collected USD6.6million in Malaysia and USD7.4million in Singapore, making a gross of over USD748 million worldwide. Fans who can't wait till next year to see Tatum on the big screen can catch him in his upcoming 2015 movies: "Jupiter Ascending", "Magic Mike XXL" and "The Hateful Eight".
