27 Mar – International movie star Datuk Jackie Chan has confirmed his attendance as a special guest at the Asean International Film Festival and Awards (AIFFA) 2015. According to The Malay Mail, the "Dragon Blade" star will be joining a star-studded line-up that includes some of the biggest names from China and South Korea. A total of 150 Asean and international film makers, as well as 200 Asean celebrities are invited to the three-day event. Also making a special appearance will be Malaysian-born "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" actress Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh, who won the first AIFFA Lifetime Achievement Award back in 2013.
Tourism Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg said, "Films that depict local cultures can make Sarawak known to the world. It is our long-term vision and as Sarawak has the potential, we have to start somewhere. AIFFA is a good place to start as Kuching is the permanent venue for the event." He added that AIFFA will create a good image of Sarawak not only as a tourist destination, but also turning the place into an ideal filming location for International films. The festival will include a Biz World Film Seminar & Exhibition at the Sarawak Tourism Complex; a 12-hour movie marathon, Movies in the Rainforest, screened at the Sarawak Cultural Village; and a Gala Dinner and Awards. AIFFA 2015 is scheduled to take place from 9 to 11 April.
