"Doctor Strange" adds Mads Mikkelsen as 'mystery villain'

Mads Mikkelsen will play a villain in "Doctor Strange".

28 Aug – Marvel is looking to add another villain to its "Doctor Strange", as Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen is reportedly in talks for a yet-to-be-revealed villain role in the movie.

Though no offers have been made yet, according to Variety, but one is expected soon. Mikkelsen's role is still unknown but he will presumably play a villain alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor's Baron Mordo.

The two antagonists will go against Doctor Strange, played by Benedict Cumberbatch. Tilda Swinton steps in as the doctor's mentor, The Ancient One, a role traditionally portrayed as male. Rachel McAdams is also rumoured for a role but remains unconfirmed to date.

This is not the first time Mikkelsen's name was mentioned for a "Doctor Strange" role, he was previously rumoured to play the lead character before it was revealed that Cumberbatch will instead be taking the role.

Mads Mikkelsen plays the titular character in TV Series, "Hannibal".

This is also not the first time for Marvel to eye the actor for a villain role. He was previously set to play Malekith in "Thor: The Dark World" before he landed the titular role in "Hannibal", an American TV series that was recently cancelled, and Christopher Eccleston won the "Thor" villain role instead.

If the deal goes through, this will mark the second high-profile role post-"Hannibal" for Mikkelsen, with the first being a role in 2016's "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story".

"Doctor Strange", which tells the story of Doctor Stephen Vincent Strange who gets a new lease on life when a sorcerer decides to take him under his wing and trains him to defend the world against evil, is set for release in November 2016.
