"Fast and Furious 7" drifts to top again

Vin Diesel and Paul Walker-led "Fast and Furious 7" makes another winning lap.

14 Apr – "Fast and Furious 7" shows no sign of slowing down as it once again races to the top, conquering the weekend box office charts in the U.S., Malaysia and Singapore for 9 to 12 April.

It's no surprise the engine is still roaring for the seventh instalment of the "Fast and Furious" series, fans are still flocking the cinemas partly to catch the long-awaited action and partly to watch the final performance of onscreen character, Brian O'Conner; played by the late Paul Walker.

Box Office Mojo stats show that in North America, the drag race movie collected USD59.5 million last weekend, leaving animated film "Home" at second place once again with the latter's collection of USD 18.5 million.

Newly-released "The Longest Ride" hitched on to third place in North America, collecting USD13 million on its opening weekend.

"Fast and Furious 7" recently made its theatrical debut in China and Douban, Chinese movie site, reports that it has collected USD66.04 million on Sunday, a figure almost similar to North America's debut.

Whereas in Malaysia, the movie has broken the record for the biggest opening of all-time, grossing more than RM27 million during its opening week although that figure is expected to have increased since last week as the movie enters its second week in cinemas.

This places "Fast and Furious 7" also at number one in Malaysia, while new releases "Two Thumbs Up" and "Hantu Bungkus Ikat Tepi" opened at second and third, respectively.

Hong Kong's "Two Thumbs Up" opened at number two in M'sia.

Over in Singapore, the top spot is still dominated by Dom Toretto and his "Fast and Furious 7" crew. Rihanna and Jim Parsons are at "Home" in second place, as the animated film makes no move from the spot. Sean Penn's "The Gunman" settles in at number three.

In Malaysia, other movies that also opened last weekend are "The Cobbler", "Conjuring Spirit", "Insanity", "The Duff" and "The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel".

Other new releases in Singapore for last weekend are "1021", "Dharam Sankat Mein", "Iron Ladies Roar", "The Longest Ride", "The Gunman" and "The Last 5 Years".
