2 Nov – It was announced back in July that Hollywood star Angelina Jolie is helming a Cambodian feature for Netflix. Entitled "First They Killed My Father", the Netflix Original Film is set to begin filming soon in Siem Reap.

"Ninety per cent of the film will be shot in Siem Reap [province] and some [locations] will be in Battambang," said Cambodia Film Commission director Cheap Sovichea, as quoted by The Phnom Penh Post.

The movie will begin filming from 12 November until the end of January next year.

Filming locations include the Siem Reap River and roads, the Angkor Wat and Bayon temples, as well as the houses and rice fields in Bakong, Banteay Srey and Pouk districts.

An astounding number of cast and crew will be involved in the filming, amounting to approximately 2,000 to 3,000 people.

Jolie's adopted son of Cambodian descend, Maddox, is said to be closely involved in the production. The 14-year-old has recently started visiting his birth country, where Jolie has set up the Maddox Jolie-Pitt Foundation. Jolie previously told the Associated Press, "Maddox is already involved in the Foundation and will take over my role when he is older."

Shown from a five-year-old girl's perspective, the script for the Khmer Rouge memoir is written by Jolie and author Luong Ung, based on the author's personal experiences as she and her family moved from Phnom Penh to different areas in the country during the Khmer Rouge Years.

Apart from the Cambodian movie, Jolie is busy with her upcoming movie, "By the Sea", in which she stars alongside husband Brad Pitt.

"By the Sea" is expected to be released this month but it might not get a worldwide, or even nationwide, release because it is currently slated to be released only in 3 theatres in the U.S.
