Another "Journey to the West" film to be made

The Monkey King's endless journey on the big screen.

18 Apr – While Daniel Wu's AMC modern take on "Journey to the West" is awaiting its premiere in fall, it was revealed that a Sino-Hollywood film collaboration is underway for the Chinese classic.

As reported on ECNS News, Beijing Ruyi Xinxin Film Investment will be working alongside Paramount Pictures to produce a 3-D version of the popular legend, entitled "Where the Road Leads to", to be released in summer 2017.

According to Paramount's Vice President Rob Moore, the Monkey King is a world-famous character and the story will work well with the latest movie technology.

Zhang Jinlai, who played the Monkey King before in previous adaptation and who will also star in the movie, stated that subsequent adaptations have not been very true to the original, and stressed that the upcoming Hollywood version will have no such twist.

To be produced by Mark Johnson of "Rain Man" and "Breaking Bad" fame, the movie will also star Ma Dehua and Chi Chongrui, who were also part of the 1986 classic TV version.
