10 Mar – "King of Mahjong", a co-production between Malaysia and Singapore, has proven itself to be the king of Chinese movies last weekend.

The Chapman To and Mark Lee-starrer opened at number three in Malaysia on 26 February. For the weekend of 5 to 8 March, the movie slips down a place, but manages to collect another RM1 million. It now finds itself in a new position as the top Chinese movie in Malaysia with its total gross of RM4 million.

The movie trumps over other competitions such as Chow Yun-fat's "From Vegas To Macau 2", Sandra Ng's "12 Golden Ducks" and Jackie Chan's "Dragon Blade".

Malaysian director Adrian Teh's highest-grossing movie to date is "The Wedding Diary 2". "King of Mahjong" seems set to beat the 2013 movie's collection of RM4.3 million. There is also a possibility for the mahjong-themed movie to overtake Singaporean actor Mark Lee's 2008 movie "Money Not Enough 2", which collected RM4.6 million.

In Singapore, the movie is performing just as well since its release on 19 February. It has collected close to SGD800,000 after just 18 days of release.

"King of Mahjong", the first Singapore-Malaysia mahjong-themed movie set in modern times, revolves around Ah Fatt (To) and Ah Shun (Lee), and tells of how friendship among buddies and family love are bonds strong enough to underscore all ambitions and desire for power.
