"Maze Runner: Scorch Trials" runs to first place

"Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials" opened at number one in M'sia and S'pore.

15 Sep – "Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials" ran all the way to first place on its opening weekend in Malaysia and Singapore while "The Perfect Guy" made a perfect debut at the U.S. weekend box office for 10 to 13 September.

Two new movies battled for the top spot at the U.S. chart, but David M. Rosenthal's thriller "The Perfect Guy" ultimately tops with its USD25.8 million gross, based on Box Office Mojo stats, despite receiving generally negative reviews from critics.

Tailing closely behind at number two is M. Night Shyamalan's "The Visit", which marks the director's return to form, finally receiving more shining reviews from critics and audiences again. With a budget of only USD5 million, the horror movie managed to gross USD25.4 million during its debut. So far, it has a USD29.3 million worldwide gross. "The Visit" will only open in Malaysia and Singapore this weekend.

"War Room" found itself at number three after descending two places. The faith-based movie stays in the top three with its USD7.7 million collection last weekend, bringing its current gross to USD39.5 million.

Who knew "The Visit" to your grandparents' house can be such a scary ordeal?

"Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials" proves to be just as good as its predecessor when the sequel to 2014's "The Maze Runner" opened at number one in Malaysia last weekend. It sees the return of Dylan O'Brien, Kaya Scodelario, Ki Hong Lee, Thomas Brodie-Sangster and more as this time the Gladers have to navigate through the scorched city to safety. "The Transporter Refueled" and "Inside Out" both were pushed down a spot, landing at number two and number three, respectively.

New release "Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials" also placed first in Singapore. The Wes Ball-directed movie shoved "Inside Out" down to second place, in turn forcing "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." to move down a spot to third place.

Also opening in Malaysia last weekend were "Bravo 5", "Yatchan", "Visions", "Strawberry", "Office", "Hero", "Maanga", "All You Need Is Love", "Tortured Souls" and "Born To Be Wild".

Over in Singapore, new movies for last weekend include "Love Live! The School Idol Movie", "Yatchan", "The Assassin", "The Transporter Refueled" and "Hero".
