Salman Khan sentenced to prison


Bollywood actor Salman Khan sentenced to five years prison.

6 May – The Mumbai sessions court has found Bollywood actor Salman Khan guilty over culpable homicide for a 2002 drunk driving hit-and-run case.

The 49-year-old "Kick" actor was sentence to five years in prison today and was immediately taken into custody.

Back in 2002, the actor was arrested after he lost control of the Toyota Land Cruiser he was driving which ran over five sleeping men on the roadside, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

A homeless man was pronounced dead and four others were injured.

The actor who was joined at the court by his family including his brothers who are also actors, Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan, maintained that he wasn't behind the wheel that night and was instead driven by his driver, Ashok Singh.

The high profile case reportedly drew a massive crowd of his fans and media outside of the courthouse and extra security was called to maintain order.

Things took a surprising turn when Salman's driver, Ashok appeared for the first time after 13 years to give his statement near the end of the proceedings to claim he indeed was driving.

Nonetheless, the judge's verdict still stands.

It is said that Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan, Soha Ali Khan and David Dhawan had met the actor at his home the day before to offer their well wishes and prayers.
