18 Aug – After making its world premiere at the 69th annual Cannes Film Festival, Boo Junfeng's "Apprentice" is set to make its North American premiere next at the Toronto International Film Festival.

The movie has also landed a US release date, as announced via a posting on the movie's official Facebook page.

No specific date was given but it was stated that it would be released on the big screen there sometime in 2017.

Michael E. Rosenberg, president of American film and DVD distribution company Film Movement, has closed the deal for the US right with Fiorella Moretti, CEO of Luxbox, the Paris-based company that handles the prison drama's sales for the international market, Screen Daily reports.

Luxbox has previously sealed the deal with several markets including Singapore (Clover Films), Hong Kong and China (Bravos Pictures), Turkey (Bir Films), Mexico (ND Mantarraya) and France (Version Originale Condor).

Added on to the list are UK (Arrow Films), Poland (Aurora), Greece (Weird Wave) and Eastern Europe (HBO).

Prior to its theatrical release in the US and other markets next year, the movie would first be screened at this year's Toronto International Film Festival, under the Contemporary World Cinema segment, which features a diverse selection of nine new works from international filmmakers.

The 41st Toronto International Film Festival will run from 8 to 18 September 2016.
