"Distance" to open for yet another film festival

"Distance", starring Chen Bo-lin, will be screened at the 2nd Bangkok Asean Film Festival.

15 Apr – Anthony Chen's upcoming movie is really going the distance before it even debuts in Singapore.

"Distance", produced by the award-winning director and starring Taiwanese actor Chen Bo-lin, is set to be the opening movie at the 2nd Bangkok Asean Film Festival.

The festival will be kicking off next Thursday at SF World Cinema, according to Thailand's The Nation, though the opener, "Distance", is by invitation only.

The festival will only open to the public from 22 April onwards.

Admission to the festival is free.

A total of 13 movies from across the Asean Economic Community will be screened, which include 10 movies from each Asean country and three classic movies – 1975's "Manila in the Claws of the Night" (The Philippines), 1970's "The Snake King's Wife" (Cambodia) and 1954's "After the Curfew (Indonesia).

The lineup of 10 includes another Singaporean movie, Royston Tan's "3688", Cambodia's "3.50" by Chhay Bora, Malaysia's short-film omnibus "Day and Night" and Thailand's "The Songs of Rice" by Uruphong Raksasad.

"Distance" previously opened for Taiwan's Golden Horse Film Festival and has been featured in several festivals, but will only be released in Singapore this 2 June.

Bangkok Asean Film Festival 2016 runs from 21 to 28 April at SF World, CentralWorld.

It will then travel to SFC CentralPlaza Khon Kaen from 28 April to 4 May, SFC CentralPlaza Surat Thani from 6 to 12 May, and SFX Maya Chiang Mai from 13 to 19 May.
