"Tomb Raider" reboot gets release date

Alicia Vikander is preparing herself to play Lara Croft.

9 Jul – Now that the reboot version of "Tomb Raider" has secured a leading lady, it has finally been given an official release date.

The Alicia Vikander-starrer is going to be released in North America on 16 March 2018, according to Variety.

The movie is now sitting in the slot previously speculated to be Warner Bros.' release date for its DC movie, "The Flash". Now that it has been given to "Tomb Raider", the superhero movie remains undated.

"Tomb Raider" started off as an action-adventure video game series, later adapted into the 2001 movie, "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider" and 2003 sequel, "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life".

Vikander, who takes over from Angelina Jolie as protagonist Lara Croft, has reportedly started bulking up to play the character.

Next year, she will be leading two more movies, romantic thriller "Submergence" and art house film "Tulip Fever", which was recently given a new release date of 24 February.
