8 Apr – After having been successfully re-launched last year, the Voilah! festival is once again bringing the best of French cinema, cuisine, art, science and more to Singapore in its 2016 edition. The festival, meant to celebrate 51 years of diplomatic relationship between Singapore and France, is organised by the Institut Français de Singapour and the French Embassy, in collaboration with the French Chamber of Commerce in Singapore and the Alliance française. The festival features many interesting events, though for movie-lovers, part of the highlights would be the Gaumont Film Retrospective and the 5th French Animation Film Festival. The Gaumont Film Retrospective is inclusive of an exhibition on the history of cinemas, as the film studio Gaumont celebrates its "120 Years of Cinema", and screenings of restored movies and unpublished contemporary movies in Singapore. Starting from 17 April, over the course of seven weekends, the movies will be screened at The Projector, Alliance francaise de Singapour and the National Design Centre. Ticket prices start from SGD11, though there are some of the movies that will be screened for free. One of the titles in the lineup is 1997's "The Fifth Element", directed by Luc Besson ("Lucy"), starring Bruce Willis ("Precious Cargo") and Milla Jovovich ("Resident Evil"). Meanwhile, the 5th French Animation Film Festival runs from 27 to 29 May. Mark Osborne's Cesar Award-winning "The Little Prince", which is the most successful French animated movie abroad of all time, is set to be screened at the festival. With over 40 programmes planned, Voilah ! French Festival Singapore makes for an interesting festival to visit, taking place from 15 April until 31 May 2016.
